Genome analysis

Genomics of complex diseases, ageing and model organisms

With clinical partners, we work on detection and functional analyses of genetic & epigenetic variations determining the individual susceptibility to complex disorders (adiposity, cancer, inflammation) and ageing. We are engaged in the sequence analysis of eukaryotic model organisms, prokaryotic genomes and metagenomes.

Projects (selected)

The genealogical tree of Haeckel (1874)

» The "genealogical tree" of Ernst Haeckel (1874).

  • Towards a novel model for ageing research: genome analysis of the short-lived seasonal fish Nothobranchius furzeri (WGL-Pakt) » more
  • Impact of genomic variations and DNA methylation on human longevity (more) and obesity (LGSA)
  • Copy-number and sequence variations of defensin genes in cancer (Wilhelm-Sander-Stiftung) and inflammation
  • Genetic predisposition to environmental disorders, like Crohn's disease/ulcerative colitis and sarcoidosis (NGFN) » more
  • Alternative splicing as an evolutionary process to increase proteome plasticity (DFG) and as a modulator of signal transduction (SFB604)
  • From comparative to functional genomics of social amoeba (DFG) » more
  • Functional genome analysis of pathogenic dermatophytes (WGL-Pakt) » more
  • Exploring the barley genome: anchoring the physical map by explorative genomic sequencing (BARLEX)
