Our Mission

Human ageing is a multifactorial process controlled by both environmental and genetic factors. Our mission is to understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie the ageing process and that lead to age-related diseases. We hope that eventually this knowledge can contribute to a more healthy ageing of people. The central question we are aiming at answering is

«What are the molecular mechanisms and genetic factors contributing to the evolution of cellular and organismal dysfunction during human aging?».

card consortiumWithin the framework of the CARD consortium, the FLI as a consortium manager applies for funding of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung - BMBF). The website is now online (http://www.card-consortium.de). With its programme Zwanzig20 the ministry supports up to ten consortiums for five years with a maximum of 45 million Euros, per consortium. Central to this programme is the identification of topics of the future with significant economic relevance and the development of corresponding solutions. The CARD consortium contains a biomedical, but also a social and an urban building focus. This programme supports Germany's eastern Federal States in particular.   » more
