DFG project granted for cooperation between FLI (F. Weih) and FSU on atherosclerosis research

Atherosclerosis is one of the most abundant diseases. Its onset is causally related to several risk factors, the most prominent and least understood risk factor being age. Atherosclerosis and its subsequent secondary diseases comprise the most frequent causes of death in industrial countries.

The Institute for Vascular Medicine of FSU, led by Prof. Habenicht, and the FLI research group Immunology (Prof. Weih) have teamed up to study the mechanisms of age-dependent atherosclerosis development. The cooperation is covered by a DFG grant to FSU, which additionally includes German immunologists and US research groups in Chicago and New York.
